Welcome to Rebel Frontier: Discover UniVersus’ New Original Sci-Fi World of Bounty Hunters, Space Pirates, and More

At UniVersus Worlds 2025, we revealed something that’s been in the works for a while now—Rebel Frontier.

Rebel Frontier is a new IP set four hundred years in the future, in an alternate timeline that will feel both unfamiliar and strangely recognizable. Humanity has achieved interplanetary travel, bringing with it the colonization and industrialization of planets and their moons across the solar system. But this progress has reshaped society in ways both wondrous and unsettling.

The world is a fusion of cyberpunk and 1980’s cassette-futurism. Technology is predominantly bulky and utilitarian, with sleek, aesthetic designs reserved for the wealthy and those with status. Megastructures tower into the skies, bathing the streets below in neon light. Rain falls from above while steam rises from the vents, creating an atmosphere that’s equal parts gritty and beautiful.

This is our love letter to nostalgia—to the anime we watched growing up, the ones we stayed up late for or tracked down on VHS at the local video store. We’re drawing from that era’s deep commitment to detailed, tangible aesthetics, born from the intense craftsmanship of traditional hand-painted cel animation. Inspired by the golden era of 80s and 90s sci-fi anime, whether you experienced them on worn-out tapes or discovered them through remasters decades later, you’ll recognize the DNA woven throughout Rebel Frontier.

Exploring the World Through Organized Play

We’ll be introducing Rebel Frontier through our Organized Play program. Starting in 2026, you’ll be able to redeem prize wall tickets for promo cards featuring characters and pivotal scenes from the Prologue. These cards will introduce you to the characters and moments that set the stage for our world and reveal what drives them forward.

Mechanically, we’ve selected some of the most played and most popular cards from our 2025 releases for the Rebel Frontier treatment—so you’ll be playing “the good ones.” It should be noted that Rebel Frontier promo cards do not extend the legality of the original prints, though you’ll still be able to play them in Standard for the next couple of years until the originals rotate out.

Meet Your Characters

Rounds 1 and 2 of 2026 will introduce Akane, an ex-cop turned bounty hunter with a chip on her shoulder. She hunts down contracts in a relentless attempt to redeem the memory of her father, who was killed in the line of duty by a breacher. Every target she brings in is another step toward atonement.

We’ll also meet Rin, a carefree young woman who grew up on Enceladus’ mining colony, one of Saturn’s ice moons. Rin grew up with nothing, always one meal away from starvation. She became a space pirate not for glory, but to smuggle supplies back to the children on her colony—hoping to make their lives just a little easier than hers was.
